Stress Management Techniques
Stress has become synonymous to life today and causes major health problems. But the good news is that people are leaning towards alternative therapy for stress, rather than conventional medication. Let's explore some of the strategies being adopted to combat it.
Here are some Techniques:
Focus on breathing
Take up Yoga, the time-tested art of de-stressing and healthy living. Yoga teaches us to breathe deeply and calm our mind and body. It may take a while to grasp, but once you get a hang of, it can get addictive.
Take a walk
Taking a walk will not only invigorate you, but will also give you time for yourself. And if you and your partner don't get enough time to spend with each other, let this be your special time together. Don't think of the walk as a chore and you will start looking forward to it just like those stolen moments when you first started dating!
Spend time with children
"Spending time with my child is therapeutic," says Aparajita Ralli, a school teacher who works long hours and carries her workload home. "My daughter is my stress buster," she says. Spending fun time with children can actually relieve a lot of stress as you can forget everything and be a child yourself. Try splashing around in a pool or even jumping in puddles of water or getting wet in the rain with your kid!
Learn from your pet
If you don't have a pet, get one! And if you have one, learn the art of de-stressing from your pet! Get enough sleep, stretch every time you wake up, get lot of exercise, drink enough water, have some fun, and learn to love unconditionally! Studies reveal dogs help relieve stress in patients suffering from depression. In fact they've been known to speed up their recovery.
Wake up early
If you're not a morning person, try and be one. Wake up early and enjoy the early morning sun. Take a walk, spend time with your family or do a crossword in the newspaper. In short, don't rush in the morning, but enjoy it and you will most likely enjoy the rest of the day as well!
Take up a hobby
Get those hands dirty with your garden soil! If you don't have a garden, pot some greens and look after them. Try herbs such as mint, parsley, basil or thyme and place the pots in your kitchen. Herbs not only add to the flavor of your food, but are known for their medicinal value.
Take up reading
Books are an escape route from reality into a fantastic world of your own. Natasha Singh, a freelance editor says, "Editing is a demanding profession. But when I read, I switch off my editor's antennae and enjoy my book. I look forward to reading every night."
By making time for ourselves we can learn to enjoy every moment of life and beat the stress that has become a part of our lives.
